Description

This drawing is a explorative piece that I made in preparation for a commissioned painting – and I was also just itching to draw again – and draw nice and big. I also just wanted to dream a little and let my imagination take me off somewhere nice – far away from this awful Coronavirus muddled up world we are living in right now.

Mrs Malukimba follows on from ‘Long Hot Day at the Market’. She’s a dressmaker in a market – like the dressmakers in Maramba Market in Livingstone who didn’t sell all the western world’s second-hand clothing that poured into Africa in the eighties and nineties, killing the cotton and garment industries. No, no – Mrs Malukimba makes dresses, the traditional dresses that African ladies wear and she’s proud of it too.

Thanks to Elske and Stephan for giving Mrs. Malukimba a home in Germany.

I also have a video available to view for this piece.
