Description:
This painting was a commission from my friends Elske and Stephan in Germany. They had seen Have You Found It Yet? and wanted something similar but on a much larger scale, with three oxpeckers instead of one. They even had the perfect spot on their wall picked out, so I was able to tailor the dimensions to fit that space perfectly.
This is actually the second version of the painting, as the first one was either lost or stolen during transit to Germany. It happened during the COVID pandemic, so almost anything seemed possible. It was a heartbreaking experience for all of us and a tough lesson about relying on unreliable courier services and their flaky insurance policies.
In the end, I’m glad I had the chance to recreate the painting. I learned a lot the second time around and ended up preferring this version to the original. Just in case the first one ever resurfaces, Elske and Stephan have a certified print of it, which would certainly make for an interesting twist to the story!
Below are some snapshots of Elske and Stephan in my studio when they came to pick up the painting in person. They didn't want to risk trusting their art to another courier service again.
